I was looking for a nice long route to get back into snowhshoeing form for the winter and the trudge up the Signal fire road seemed to fit the bill.

Starting out from the northern trailhead for the Skyline Trail the fire road gradually winds up 9km to the Signal lookout and then the trudge to the true summit of Signal is another 2km from there heading upwards along a windswept ridge. Not much as far as views go through the trees but from the summit most of the Jasper area is in clear view. At least today there were decently formed snowshoe and ski tracks (occasionally mixing together) which really helps, 21km of snowshoeing on fresh powder is a much more tiring beast..
